Compressed air braking systems: the regeneration process of components

Our experience in the machining and overhaul of compressed air brake systems

When speaking of remanufactured in reference to compressed-air brake system components, one must always bear in mind that the machining and overhaul process of these parts is equivalent to genuine rebuilding, which guarantees safety and efficiency.

Remanufacturing in fact makes use of a used spare part whose worn components are replaced to create a product equivalent to new, as safe as the one just placed on the market. This is because it undergoes a real production process that follows detailed and complex procedures, which we are going to describe today..

Why choose a remanufactured spare part

A remanufactured product, especially in the case of brake systems, saves money without having to give up the quality of a spare part that is as important as it is delicate. Unlike the reconditioned product, which does not undergo the same careful process, the remanufactured product is overhauled and brought back to the original condition specified by the parent company that made it. Like a new product.

The use of remanufactured spare parts also reduces waste, because it triggers a virtuous circle that protects the environment thanks to the reduced use of raw materials and the reduced production of material that is difficult to dispose of.

We have talked extensively about the advantages and reasons for choosing remanufactured parts in this article.

The production process of a remanufactured spare part

The production process of a remanufactured spare part involves a number of essential steps that can be divided into three macro phases which, within them, develop further procedures depending on the material to be treated, the type of spare part and the actual possibility of restoration.

These three phases concern the disassembly of the part to be remanufactured and the separation of its component parts, with subsequent mechanical or manual cleaning, the assembly of the part and its testing for placing on the market.

The fundamental steps for a workmanlike job

The purpose of spare parts overhaul, as we have said, is to maintain a quality standard equal to new. For this reason, interventions are only carried out after a careful assessment of the malfunctioning of the part and its effective restorability.

Before proceeding with the first macro phase, we at GGN engage in a series of evaluations to ensure that each production step is carried out correctly. Work only starts when we are absolutely certain that we can achieve a workmanlike end result.

  1. Dismantling and cleaning. In this phase, the components are taken to the dedicated department and dismantled, to be then divided into intact and damaged parts to be replaced. The parts in good condition are in turn sorted by material type and size in order to assign them to the most appropriate washing cycle, which is carried out using specific solvents, soaps or degreasers.
  2. Sandblasting, brushing and painting. Once washed and degreased, the most delicate parts – those with fragile parts and plastic and rubbery inserts – are subjected to a manual brushing phase to remove all impurities, while the more robust metal parts undergo sandblasting, using techniques specifically designed not to damage or affect the parts. Subsequently, the outer skeleton and the bracket are painted to preserve the part from oxidation and to give it a better aesthetic connotation.
  3. Quality testing and assembly. In this step, the part is reassembled by first fixing every threaded hole and slide photo, restoring the tolerances it originally had, and replacing damaged internal parts with our repair kits. With the help of lubricants, greases and oils, we then proceed to the complete assembly of the mechanisms.
  4. Testing and packaging. At the end of the assembly phase we proceed with accurate testing, carried out on the basis of the parameters indicated in the technical data sheets of the part’s parent company. Once testing is complete, a label is applied to certify its positive outcome and the product is packaged for sale.

GGN-branded warranty, speed and service

The correct execution of this processing cycle requires a great deal of knowledge of the subject, dedicated equipment and a schematic, effective and efficient production line.

More than 45 years of experience and constant training in technology allows us to offer our customers not only a wide range of remanufactured products of the highest quality, but also short lead times, punctual delivery and continuous service.

These are the reasons why GGN remanufactured parts are safe, reliable and high-performance.
